Matches and lighters are not toys. Children are naturally curious and it is normal to want to explore, but fire is dangerous. Note that most fires caused by children playing with lighters and matches begin in bedrooms.  It is important to do the following to ensure everyone stays safe:

  • Talk to young adults and children about the dangers of playing with matches and fire.
  • Store lighters and matches in places that can’t be reached by a child such as a locked cabinet or drawer.
  • Don’t leave children in a room alone with a lit candle, lighters or matches.
